Alfred’s Obituary Alfred G. “Al” Abernathy, 79, of Wichita, passed away at 3:00 a.m., Sunday, February 2, 2020 at Life Care Center in Wichita. Alfred Gene Abernathy was born on June 17, 1940 to Marshall Abernathy, Sr. and Beatrice (Stephenson) Abernathy in Okay, Oklahoma. As a young boy, he grew up in Okay, Oklahoma and attended school in Wybark, Oklahoma. In 1958, Al graduated from Wybark High School. Following high school, Al moved to Wichita, where he lived ever since. For several years, he was a chef at the Broadview Hotel. Later he worked as a delivery driver for Boeing until his retirement. He enjoyed traveling and spending time with friends. Survivors include: Three brothers – Kenneth Smith of Parsons Aaron “Skip” Smith and his wife, Debbie, of Parsons Michael Smith of Parsons Two sisters – Dorothy Dennis of Parsons Delores “Dede” Dodd of Parsons Several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Emmett Smith, Jr. and Marshall Abernathy, Jr. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will take place on Monday, February 10 at Oakwood Cemetery. Read More
