Wayne Auther Benson, 77, of Holden, MO passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at his home. He was born July 13, 1942 in Lone Jack, MO the son of Woodrow P. Benson and Mabelle E. Huff. On June 6, 2008, at the Bethlehem Church in Sedalia, MO he was united in marriage to Shirley (Meads – Ross) Benson, who survives of the home. Wayne graduated from Lone Jack High School the class of 1960. He lived most of his life in the Holden, Lone Jack and Chapel Hill Communities. Wayne enjoyed camping and woodworking. He especially enjoyed traveling across the United States on his motorcycle with a group of friends affectionately known as “The Bunch”. Wayne was known as “Rabbit” because he was quick on the draw and ready to go. Wayne worked on and fixed just about everything from tv’s to racecars with the boys. He was a jack of all trades. He owned and operated Benson Auto Service in Holden, MO. In the 1980’s. He worked for Western Electric until he retired and then worked as a real estate agent for Trading Post Real Estate in Holden. Wayne was a member of the Elm Spring Baptist Church in Kingsville, MO. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Mabelle; his first wife, Betty L. Bowman on December 16, 1997; one step-daughter, Deana Ross in June of 2009; one brother, James Sonny Benson in 1989 in California; one sister, Ruthie Jean (Benson) Brown on December 6, 2019. He is survived by, his wife Shirley Benson of Holden, MO; two sons, Aaron Wayne Benson of Holden, MO, Scott Eugene Benson of Holden, MO; one daughter, Shannon Renee Benson of Holden, MO; three step-sons, Rick Ross of Holden, MO, Ken Ross and wife Kim of Strasburg, MO, Brian Ross of Holden, MO; two brothers, Denton Benson and wife Darlene of Holden, MO, Perry Benson of Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great grandson, Landen and one step-great granddaughter, Amara. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 20, 2019 at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, Holden, MO. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019 at Campbell-Cast Funeral Home, Holden, MO with Pastor Mike Buettner Officiating. Interment will follow the service at Elm Spring Cemetery, North of Kingsville, MO. Pallbearers will be Tracy Benson, Tony Benson, Sabrina Farris, Amy Benson, Eliah Hensel, Adam Benson and Cody Benson. Honorary Pallbearers are Jake Ross, Brian D. Ross, Preston Ross, Will Ross and Katie Ross. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center in care of Campbell-Cast Funeral Home.
