Walter Neal McPherson, 78, of Crawfordville, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. The only son of the late Truman Norris McPherson and the late Hattie Lorraine Presnell McPherson, he was born in Gadsden County on August 26, 1941. Following a thirty year career in retail sales for various men’s clothing stores, he became a distribution manager for The Thrifty Nickel for almost ten years. He was also a devoted member at Southwood Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee and as an Usher. He is survived by his wife, Betty Powell Shivers McPherson, of Crawfordville, Florida; children, Nathan McPherson (wife, Nell), Marty McPherson, both of Crawfordville, Florida and Sandy McPherson Johnson (husband, Pete), of Anchorage, Alaska; stepchildren, Gary Shivers, of Woodville, Wesley Shivers of Crawfordville, LaVonne Shivers of Crawfordville and Calvin Shivers of Crawfordville. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. The funeral is 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Southwood Baptist Church, with the interment following at Woodland Cemetery in Havana. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Lighthouse Children’s Home.
