Obituary Verna Mae (Verblaauw) Belanus, aged 96, of Grand Rapids, formerly of North Haledon, N.J., passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, George Belanus, in early 2019. Verna is survived by her daughters, Jane Quinn (Bruce), Linda Hoffman (William, deceased), and Susan Burke (Bryan); sister, Charlotte Lendick, four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Verna was a faithful wife and mother who worked at Eastern Christian High School in New Jersey for many decades prior to relocating to Grand Rapids. She was a member of Seventh Reformed Church and enjoyed needlework as a hobby. Verna’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Vista Springs Riverside Gardens for their care, support and friendships made with Verna over the years. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 30, 11:00 am at the Zaagman Memorial Chapel (2800 Burton St. SE) with Rev. Paul van Engelenhoven officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Monday from 10 to 11 am prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Seventh Reformed Church (950 Leonard St. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504).
