Sylvester’s Obituary Sylvester G. “Pop” Quillen, Sr., age 86, of Ocean View, DE went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 6, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. He was born in Frankford, DE on June 6, 1933 son of the late Eldon Henry Quillen and the late Marie Elizabeth (Furman) Quillen. “Pop” proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean War. He retired as a custodian with over 26 years of service in 1991 from the Indian River School District. “Pop” was also the owner and operator of Quillen’s Repair Shop for 37 years. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to lend a helping hand. “Pop” loved to cut grass, put puzzles together and listening to country music and the Grand Ole Opry. His love and devotion to his grandchildren and great grandchildren will be cherished by his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte L. Quillen; a son, Sylvester G. “Chuck” Quillen, Jr. and a brother, Charles Quillen. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Gail Quillen; two sisters, Daisy Williams and Jeanette Fry; a brother, Brice Quillen; a grandson, Sylvester G. “Bud” Quillen, III; a granddaughter, Jenna Quillen and three great grandchildren, Kylee and Steven Reynolds and Zachary Quillen. A viewing will be held from 11 AM to 12 noon on Friday, December 13, 2019 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970, where a funeral service will begin at 12 noon. Interment will follow at St. George’s Cemetery in Clarksville, DE.
