Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Evelyn Brown Gunn died December 22, 2019, three days short of her 96th birthday. Shirley was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1923, to Barton and Dorothy Brown in Calexico, California. She married Richard N. Gunn September 28, 1950, in Yuma, Arizona. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They moved to Cedar City in January 1951 when Richard accepted employment as an engineer/announcer for radio station KSUB. They had three sons, Stephen, Gordon, and Bruce After graduation she worked as a florist, then worked for the U.S. Immigration Service at the Port of Entry at Calexico. She also worked at the Cedar City Public Library, retiring after twenty-five years. Shirley was a volunteer for almost eighteen years at the Cedar City Chamber of Commerce and Tourist Center. She met people from all over the world and enjoyed telling them about places to visit in Southern Utah and the rest of the state. She was also a Pink Lady at Valley View Medical Center Auxiliary for over fourteen years. She was active in her church having positions in the Primary, Cub Scouts, Relief Society, and the genealogy home extraction program. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, camping, and traveling by car, plane, tour bus and motorhome. From Alaska to Mexico City, Halifax, Nova Scotia to Florida, Shirley traversed the continent, visiting historical sites along the way. Though she enjoyed the beauty she found during all of her travels, camping in the mountains of Utah was her favorite. Shirley was preceded in passing by her husband Richard and son Gordon. She is survived by her other two sons, Stephen (Susan) Gunn and Bruce (SharonLee) Gunn; her six grandchildren, Kimberly, Ryan, Kyle, Natalie, Cameron, and Cory, and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be on Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 11:00am at Cedar City Cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Read More
