Samuel J. Pitittieri, 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Willimansett West, with his loving family at his side. Born November 19, 1924, son of the late Rosario and Francesca (Moscato) Pitittieri, he was a communicant of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr. Samuel was a US Navy veteran of World War II, serving aboard the SS Henry Bacon, SS James Ford Rhodes and SS Robin Tuxford. He earned the WWII Victory Medal along with the American, European-African, and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medals. Samuel worked at the Springfield Armory until its closure, and retired from the Chicopee School Department after many years of service. He was a member and past director of the Polish American Citizens Club of Ludlow, and the US Navy Armed Guards of New England. Sam’s family would like to thank the staff of Willimansett West for the attentive care given to him during his stay. Samuel is survived by his beloved wife of seventy-two years, Helen (Kos) Pitittieri; loving children, James Pitittieri and wife Stephanie of Conway, and Karen Pelczar and husband David of Chicopee; three cherished grandchildren, Jason, Ashley and husband Mike, and Mackenzie; caring sister, Anna Marinone of Windsor Locks, CT; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Rose Campbell. Funeral services for Samuel will be held Saturday from Kozikowski Funeral Home, 565 Front St., Chicopee, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Stanislaus Basilica. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Calling hours are Saturday from 8:30-9:45AM.
