Obituary of Ruth White Ruth White passed away on December 2, 2019 in her Herndon, Virginia home. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, her sister, Ann, and her brother, Jack. Ruth is survived by her two sons: Tim of Richmond, VA, John of Reston, VA, daughter-in-law’s Anne Margaret and Penny, grandchildren, Brendan, Erin, Matilda and Trinity . Ruth donated her body to Georgetown University. Ruth graduated from Radford College, the Women’s Division of VPI (now known as Radford University) with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Following a early career with Virginia Power introducing a new microwave kitchen appliance, she raised her two sons while also teaching tennis classes to students of all ages on the tennis court behind her house. Ruth was an avid and skilled tennis player who loved playing bridge and entertaining her friends following a day on the courts. In the mid-1980s, she returned to work to keep an eye on her two teenage sons while working in the cafeteria at Herndon High School. She enjoyed the staff and students at the school so much that she worked there 25 years until her retirement in 2009. Ruth also enjoyed playing golf, shopping, solving jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, traveling, watching Hallmark movies, entertaining friends, spending time with her sons and four grandchildren, and especially playing with her dog, Fifi. Ruth’s energy, enthusiasm, and love will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone who knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter at www.ffcas.org . A private celebration of Ruth’s life will be held in the near future.
