Obituary Ruth Esther (Mittank) Lewis Feb. 5, 1928 – Dec. 4, 2019 Ruth E. Lewis, 91, passed away quietly on Dec. 4, 2019 at The Legacy on the Bethany Point Health Campus in Anderson, Indiana. She was a sweet, kind and loving soul who will be missed by all who knew her. Ruth E. Lewis was born at home to Ralph and Lois (Hockett) Mittank on Feb. 5, 1928 in Fairmount Township. She was raised on a farm with her siblings Doris (Russel) Watts, Clyde (Phyllis) Mittank and Janet (Jack) Fox, all deceased. Ruth and her siblings were raised in the Quaker faith. She led a quiet and godly life, always being an example of love and faith for others. She met her love and husband in High School, at the “original” Fairmount High School building. Ruth and Howard M. Lewis married in Nov. of 1946 and had three sons. Ruth is survived by her sons, Ralph/Jim (Salome) Lewis, Daughter-in-law Maxine Lewis, and David (Lucinda) Lewis. She is survived by Grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Doug (Angela) Lewis and family Sierra and Lauren. Sherie (Greg) Myers and family Hailey and Ella. Tim (Gwyn) Lewis and family Todd Staton and Mason Lewis. Jennifer (Chad) Korff. Ben (Sarah) Lewis and family Meridith and Emily. Step-grandchildren and step-great-grand children; Michael (Mandy) White and family Asher and Everly. Andrew (Erica) White and family Addison and Ethan. and one Great-great granddaughter, Tessa Marie Lewis. Ruth was proud of her sons, and of the work she did at different times throughout her life. Ruth worked as a Soda Fountain Girl at the Fairmount Drug Store, 8th grade through graduation. After graduation and before children she worked full time. After she married Ruth helped to care for her invalid mother-in-law as she was raising her first son. As children came along she was no longer able to work until they were all in school. Ruth then began work at Owen’s-Illinois in the Canteen. By her retirement from O-I in 1983 she was the “Insurance Lady”. Ruth loved serving her church family in whatever capacity she was needed, loved spending time with her family, and gifted many family and friends with her hand knit sweaters and afghans. She avidly studied her Bible until she could no longer do so and always had a word of wisdom from her studies for anyone who might ask her. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Howard and her son, John W. Lewis. Our Family would like to thank the Legacy “family” for their loving care and kindness during Ruth’s stay. We will be forever grateful for your understanding when Mom got lost on the way to her room, or needed to find the stairway to get to her room, or had to know that the kids were safe. Thank You for caring for us as well. All of you in the Legacy home have our sincere appreciation. Ruth’s services will be at the Armes-Hunt Funeral Home, 415 S. Main St, Fairmount, Indiana on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 2 PM with Pastor Brock Meyer officiating. Visitation will be from 12-2 prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
