Pastor Robert Edward McCurry, 88, of Newnan went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 11, 2019. Pastor Bob was born October 23, 1931 in Atlanta, GA to the late Howard L. McCurry & Ruby Thomaston McCurry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife of 67 years, Evelyn Wade McCurry, his daughters, Patricia Anne McCurry, Hannah Elizabeth McCurry, son, Pastor Ronald McCurry, and grandchildren, Matthew McCurry and Amber Schroeder. Pastor McCurry grew up in Atlanta where he met his wife and they became sweethearts at age 12. They married five years later when they were 17 years old. Pastor Bob founded Calvary Temple (Heritage Baptist Church) where he served as senior pastor for many years. In 1988, they moved the church from Atlanta to Sharpsburg, GA and later changed the name to Southpointe Church. Pastor Bob founded Central Christian School (Heritage Christian School) in 1965 and have mentored many teachers, administrators and students over the past fifty-four years. The funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Southpointe Church, 3613 Highway 34 East, Sharpsburg, GA 30277 with Pastor John Weaver officiating. Pastor McCurry will lie in state beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The visitation is Friday evening between 6-8 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home, 38 Jackson Street, Newnan.
