Obituary Pauline Virginia Vandenberg, 94, of Burlington, died at 8:38 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2019, at her home in Burlington. She is now with her life-long sweetheart of 68 years to continue their journey together. Born August 26, 1925, in Salem, IA, she was the daughter of Perry Elmer and Ruth Mae Garmoe Gill. On June 12, 1945, she married John Raymond Vandenburg in Keosauqua, IA. He passed on June 17, 2013. Pauline worked at Schaffer Pen Co. in the 1940’s. Pauline and Raymond worked together in Henry and Des Moines County Homes for 30 years. Then she worked for Montgomery Wards and later for Randy Kinney at his convenience store until she retired. She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1943. She was of the Methodist faith and was a member of Big Mound Methodist Church. She was a lifetime member of the VFW auxiliary and Eastern Star in Keosauqua, IA. She enjoyed bowling and won many tournaments. She liked watching NBA and Iowa Hawkeye basketball. In her younger years, she won several dance contests. Spending time with family was Pauline’s favorite thing to do. She enjoyed keeping up with the family, always asking how everyone’s day was going. She was particularly fond of seeing her grandkids in their Halloween costumes each year. Survivors include one daughter, Becky (Jerry) Grinstead of Burlington; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, three brothers, and one son. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of the Prugh Crematory. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Vandenberg will be 1:00 PM Friday, December 27, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home.
