Mrs. Nita J. Smith, age 84, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019. She was born on June 26, 1935 in Petoskey, MI to Norman and Louise (Hunsburger) Mann. Nita worked at GTE for over 30 years before retiring. On March 28, 1954 she married William “Bill” Smith, Jr. in Olivet, MI. Together they cherished 65 years of marriage full of love and laughter before Bill preceded Nita in death, last week December 17, 2019. Nita was a member of Wolf Lake UMC, where she also volunteered and was past director of their Kids Hope USA program. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and reading. Nita and Bill also loved to camp, especially their long trips to Alaska. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Kenny (Kay) Smith, David Smith, Sandra (Tom) Morence, and Pam (Tim) Flint; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; mother, Louise Mann; daughter-in-law, Deb Smith; brother, Richard (Kathy) Mann; and sister, Natalie Benson. Nita was also preceded in death by her father, Norman Mann; son, Billy Smith; granddaughter, Abigail; and brothers, Daniel and Martin Mann. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11AM Monday, December 30, 2019 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Carl Black officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM Monday.
