Melvin Nathaniel Copney, 55, of Washington, PA, formerly of Wheeling, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2019 in Washington, PA. He was born July 5, 1964 in Wheeling, a son of the late Roland & Anna Bell (Waitts) Copney. Melvin was a security guard for Friendship Village in Washington, PA, and was a long time referee for basketball, football and Softball in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his step brother William Butch Roland. Surviving are four children, Odessa Copney and her fiancé, Emanuel Brown of CA, Dominque DeBerry of WV, Roland Copney of WV and Miranda (Steven) Koon of GA; three siblings, Jim (Brenda) Copney of Wheeling, WV, David Copney of OH and Kim (Victor) McCoy of CO; step brother, Ronnie (Cynthia) Roland of MI; three aunts, Aunt Queenie, Aunt Kathy and Aunt Rosie and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Friends will gather at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Wheeling Chapel, 1400 Eoff Street, Wheeling on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from noon until the time of the Memorial Service at 1pm. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Wheeling at a later date..
