Melissa J. Astacio, 44, passed away unexpectedly on December 20, 2019. She was the longtime companion of Kenneth Almeida. Melissa was born in Fall River and was the daughter of the late Robert Ausmus and Marjorie (Chace) Ausmus. Melissa was a graduate of the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional Vocational Technical High School and lived in Somerset her whole life. She was employed as a personal care giver for many years, caring for her mother whom she loved deeply. Melissa enjoyed walking the neighborhood with her beloved dog Amigo and was a social butterfly. She was a warm and caring person who would go out of her way too help others, no matter what they may have needed. Melissa cared deeply for her grandson Oliver and was affectionately known as “Ma” throughout her neighborhood. She will be dearly missed by her family and anyone who was lucky enough to have known her. Melissa is survived by her children, Elysandra Astacio and her companion Noah Medeiros, Heaven Astacio and Kelsey Ausmus all of Somerset; siblings, Patricia Ausmus of Dartmouth, Robert Ausmus and his wife Dawn of Dayton, OH and Mary Lee and her husband Don of TN; grandson Oliver Thibault and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019, at 10am, in the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, December 29, 2019 from 1-4pm in the funeral home.
