Mazel’s Obituary Montezuma – Mazel E. Salsbury, 91, died December 23, 2019 at Bethel Home in Montezuma . He was born on October 1, 1928 near St. Louis, Michigan, the son of John Harrison and Mary (Blymier) Salsbury. Mazel attended school in Pleasant Valley, Michigan. He worked hard to help support the family after his father’s death, working at a trailer factory as a teen. On April 15, 1952, Mazel was united in marriage to Vera Fricke. They were blessed with three children. Mazel worked for Total Refinery for 39 years and also farmed. He and Vera later moved to Montezuma. He enjoyed his family and the time they spent together. He was a member of the Newark Mennonite Church in Ithaca, Michigan. Mazel is survived by his wife, Vera of Montezuma; three children, Doug Salsbury and wife Janet of Goshen, Indiana, Peggie Simler and husband Brian of Oak Harbor, Washington, and Kalvin Salsbury and wife Donna of Montezuma; sister, Macy Leonard and husband Harry of St. Louis, Michigan; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Juanita, Geraldine, Stanley, Cline, and Ilena. Funeral service will be held at Newark Mennonite Church in Ithaca, Michigan on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. with Ministers Darin Litwiller, Michael Litwiller, and Keith Litwiller presiding. Burial will follow at Hayes Road Cemetery in Ithaca, Michigan. Visitation will be at Bethel Home in Montezuma on Thursday, December 26, 2019 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.
