Maureen Harris April 12, 1918 – December 04, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Maureen Perkison Harris of Glen Carbon, Illinois, age 101, passed away peacefully December 4, 2019. She was born in April of 1918 to Lorenzo (Lowe) Perkison and Odessa Puckette Perkison in Buckner, Arkansas. In September of 1937, she married Elmer Lee Harris, who preceded her in death in 2000. Maureen graduated from Stamps High School, Stamps, Arkansas, on May 24, 1935. After graduating from Arkansas State Agricultural and Mechanical College, Magnolia, Arkansas, in 1937, she was a teacher in the Stamps School District. Maureen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stamps, Arkansas, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was an active member of the Women’s Study Club of Stamps, Arkansas. While living in Houston, Texas, Maureen joined a local poetry club and wrote many poems covering various topics from memories of farm life to ribbon craft. Two of her poems, “Early School Days” and “Childhood on a Farm” were included in Tales from the Terrace, published in 2004. She shared her ability to transform ribbon into paper flowers, particularly roses, with all who expressed a desire to learn. Maureen had a lifelong love of cats. During her lifetime, she cared for two cats: Thelma and Lady Jane. Maureen was preceded in death by her father, Lorenzo, and mother, Odessa; a sister, Floye; and three brothers, Truman, L. D. (Buddy) and William Gerald. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Kay (Carroll) Bogard and Holly (Matthew) Donath; one grandson, Matthew; and several nephews. A memorial service will be held after the holidays. Print Obituary
