Mary’s Obituary Mary Louise (Belle) McGoy was born to Ollie and Elmer Belle in Arkansas and died peacefully in Springfield, Illinois on November 28, 2019. Although, she lived in Chicago, Illinois during her teenage years, she returned to Cairo, Illinois in her early twenties where she spent most of her life with brief periods in Memphis, Tennessee and Springfield, Illinois. Before she was old enough to vote, she began teaching in a small school in Mound City, Illinois. She also taught at St. Columbus Catholic School in Cairo, Illinois, Washington Elementary School and Emerson Elementary School both in Cairo, Illinois. Mary loved teaching at each of these Schools. Her favorite was Bennett Elementary. Our Mother loved teaching because she absolutely loved children. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Magnolia Lowery and her Aunt Mattie Raglan. She is survived by her six sons: Charles, Ronald, Jerry, Claude, Harvey, Johnny and five daughters: Barbara, Ollie, Mary Marcella, Lynda and 43 grandchildren, 102 great grandchildren, and 39 great great grandchildren and a host of daughters-in-law and sons-in-law. Our mother was a patient, friendly and kind person and a true friend to many. She laughed easily and often . She upheld high expectations for her children and her students and set a good example for those around her, especially her children. Even though, she raised eleven children, she still graduated with her Bachelor and Master’s degree in Education and Elementary Guidance Counseling. She was a great mother and friend and will be greatly missed. Services for Mary Louise McGoy will be held on Saturday December 7, 2019 at Massie Funeral Home in Mounds, Illinois at 3:00 p.m. Read More
