Lyle’s Obituary Age 73, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2019 surrounded by friends and family at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He left this earth to register in his last auction to search for his final treasure. He was born July 8, 1946 in Ypsilanti, the son of Calvin and Ruth (Slane) McDermott. Lyle was a 1964 graduate of Ypsilanti High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Airforce as a medic during the Vietnam War. Lyle was employed by General Motors, Hydra-matic plant as a metallurgist for 30 years, retiring in 2003. Early on Lyle coached Ypsilanti Little League baseball for twelve years which he thoroughly enjoyed. He loved war history, collecting antique toys, classic cars, Western movies, historical memorabilia, going to auctions, road trips, lunches at Sidetrack and having a Guinness with his friends. He was a dedicated volunteer and member for twelve years at the Ypsilanti Historical Museum and Archives. He had a passion for helping visitors and was skilled at researching properties and it showed in his enthusiastic approach. He had a heart of gold, the gift of gab and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Lyle is survived by several aunts, several cousins and friends. The viewing will be 4-8 pm Thursday, December 12 and the funeral service will be 11 am Friday, December 13, 2019 at Stark Funeral Service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
