Jim Wilson Carter, age 71, of Manassas, VA, passed away on Wednesday, December 25, 2019 in his home. He was born on May 14, 1948 in California, the son of Wilson Colton Carter Jr. and Robin Atkinson Carter. Jim’s life was the personification of unbounded devotion and duty. Jim entered the US Army at age 18 and retired as a Master Sergeant after 21 years of service, which included 25 months in Vietnam, as well as numerous other overseas and domestic assignments. After earning a BS in Business and Asian Studies from University of Maryland and a MS in Systems Management from University of Southern California, Jim worked in several analyst positions at the U.S. OPM, INS, and NOAA, retiring after 20 years in the U.S. federal civil service. In every aspect of Jim’s life, he maintained an unwavering and selfless dedication to helping others. He was deeply active in several community service organizations as well as the Lutheran church, all of which included daily responsibilities that Jim strived to carry out even during recent stays at the hospital. Above all, Jim honored his family and raised ten children that included his children, step-children, nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Griffin Carter, and his wife Tricia Keiko Carter. Survivors include his wife, Hye-Seok Carter; Sons Joshua Thomas Carter (Ellen), Yosuke Omori Carter (Angela Faes), Jonathan Matthew Carter (Hyun-joo), and Jin Kim Carter (Kristy); Daughters Mie Omori Devers (Christopher), Jaime Marie Sellers (John), and Judith Suzanne Carter; Grandchildren Joseph Timothy Carter, James William Carter, Jamie Megan Aldana Carter, Jackson Yuichi Devers, Kaleb Ito Carter, Kenji Raymond Carter, Julia Kyung-Sook Ashby, Jacob Monaghan Sellers, and Jordan Frances Sellers; and Joshua and Jonathan’s mother, SomPorn McLaughlin. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, January 3 at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center St, Manassas, VA. Funeral services with reception to follow will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 4 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 8712 Plantation Ln, Old Town Manassas, VA 20110.
