James R. “Jimmy”‘s Obituary James R. “Jimmy” Houston, 62 , of Acworth passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 12th. A memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, December 21st at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church in Acworth. He is preceded in death by his father, James Leo Houston; mother, Janice Moss Houston; and his daughter, Lindsay Houston. He is survived by his wife, Constance “Koni” Thompson Houston; daughter, Madeline “Maddy” S. Houston; brother, Charles “Chuck” Houston (Dawn); stepsons Joe, Jon & Jeremy Thompso;, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A native Mariettan, Jim attended Marietta High School, Graduating in 1975. He worked part-time for METRO, starting when he was 17, then moving on to attend Mercer College, after High School. Afterwards, he returned to Marietta to work for his father at Crains S&S Sales, which later became Houston Brothers. Jim worked with his father and brother, and then his brother and nephew until present. Jim was an avid sports fan all his life, and could recite baseball stats at the drop of a hat. His favorite teams were the San Francisco 49ers & the SF Giants. When he was 10-11, he took a trip to San Francisco with his family & absolutely loved the climate, especially coming from a childhood home without A/C. He adopted SF as his favorite city and it’s teams as his to follow. In his later years, he achieved his BA from SUNY in Psychology; he was working on his masters in Psychology as well. Jim was an avid reader, and his library boasted well over a thousand books varying in a boundless number of genres. He was an enthusiastic Fantasy Baseball player for the past ten years, winning this year, and receiving the 2019 League Champion Trophy from CBS Sports. Jim also loved the weather, and easily could have been a local meteorologist, seeing trends and giving predictions accordingly every day, often concurring or dissenting with Ken Cook and Glen Burn’s forecasts. He was our favorite sous meteorologist. Being from Marietta, he maintained life-long friendships, and could recognize everyone he ever knew, “I never forget a face.” He was active at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church in Acworth, Ga , and loved the family atmosphere , love & care of the congregation. Family was the major focus for him, enjoying family gatherings with his brother, holiday dinners with his step sons and his grandchildren. His greatest love, though, was for his wife and daughter. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the funeral hour in the Church Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Reaching Out Foundation, Inc. at www.reachingoutfoundation.org Online condolences may be expressed at www.collinsfuneralhome.org.
