James “Jimmer”‘s Obituary Ely Twp. – James M. “Jimmer” Maki, Sr., age 70, of 2540 Co. Rd. 496 Ishpeming, (Ely Twp.), passed away Friday, December 6, 2019 at UP Health System Marquette. James was born in Marquette on April 28, 1949, a son of the late Georgine Myrtle (Rolstone) and Martin Matthew Maki. At the age of 17 Jim signed up to join the U.S. Army along side his twin brother. He served during the Vietnam War. Jimmer worked for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company for 30 years, working at the Mather B, Humboldt, Republic and Empire Mines and retired from the Tilden Mine where he worked in the tool crib. Jimmer was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming, and the Lillian Larson Greenwood American Legion Post #114. He previously served as the 12th District Committee Man of Post #556- Champion, and of Post #114 Greenwood. Jimmer was part of the Veterans reconnect committee and Vice Commander for the State of Michigan 5th Zone. Jimmer enjoyed fishing and hunting, was an avid Red Wings, Lions and Tigers fan, and had a vast collection of John Wayne movies. He also enjoyed woodworking and loved watching and following his children and grandchildren in all their activities. Jimmer is survived by his wife Gale (Anderson) Maki, children: Donna (Robert) Kukla of Gwinn, James (Jessie) Maki of Ishpeming, Sherry (Bryan) Prusi of Ishpeming, Richard (Kari) Maki of Ishpeming, Joe Maki of Ishpeming, Jerri (Billy) Leader of Ishpeming, Jeff (Michelle) Maki of Fond du Lac, WI and Tina Maki of Ishpeming, a sister Judy Reichel of Negaunee, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, including one expecting soon, along with several nieces and nephews. Jimmer was preceded in death by his parents, a twin brother, Jerry Maki, a sister Joan Hill, and a son Clayton Maki. Jimmer’s family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00PM to 3:00PM on Saturday December 14, 2019 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming where funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM with Pastors Matthew Osborne and D. Michael Carriere to officiate. Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his sons, grandsons and nephew Matt Pelto. Military Honors will be accorded by the A Potluck luncheon will follow the service at the Greenwood American Legion Post #114.
