Jack Earl McCaughey was born October 25, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa, the last of 10 children born to John Earl and Esther McCaughey. He was raised in Des Moines and lived there all of his life. As a young man, Jack worked in coal mines. He eventually took a job with Iowa Power & Light, where he worked 42 years, before retiring as a superintendent. On June 8, 1951 Jack was united in marriage to Hazel Delle Knight. Hazel passed away in 2008. Jack passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the Glen Oaks Alzheimer’s Special Care Center, in Urbandale, at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Hazel and 9 siblings. Survivors include his children: Jackie Ruge and John, James and Mark McCaughey and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack has been cremated and no services are planned. Private burial will be in Avon Cemetery at a later date.
