Obituary Hilda Ratay, 90, of Long Lake, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at Bishop Hills in Rockford under the loving care of her family and Interim Hospice. Hilda was born on August 31, 1929 in Munhall, PA, the daughter of Albert and Annie (Mansell) Higham. She and her husband Donald moved to Long Lake in 1989 after she retired from working for the post office in Royal Oak, MI. Hilda enjoyed quilting and knitting and loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. She was a good cook but never used a recipe. Hilda was a people person and never met a stranger. She was a long time member of Shiloh Community Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Don and her parents and one brother Albert Higham Jr. Hilda is loved and survived by her children; Mark (Nancy) Ratay of Hazel Park, Becky (Paul) Knoerl of Rockford and Melissa (Steven) Rose of Berkley, grandchildren; Brian (Norah) Knoerl, Aaron Knoerl, Hannah Rose, Mark Ratay and Jennifer (Stephan) Lee and one sister Margaret Ague of Frederick, MD. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Shiloh Community Church with Pastors Jamey Nichols and Ken Harger officiating. Committal prayers will follow in Orleans Twp Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Bishop Hills or Interim Hospice. To send flowers to Hilda’s family, please visit our floral section.
