Born in Charlottesville on March 13, 1927 and raised on a farm in Stony Point, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Daisy Crickenberger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both of her husbands Haden Elden Scruggs Sr. and Ross O. Kirby, her brothers Fitzhugh, Lee, Francis, Warren and Harry and sisters Ethel (Nita), Sadie Kate, Artie, and Iona, and a son-in-law, David Omohundro. Georgia is survived by her loving children: Brenda S. Omohundro, Haden and Jennifer Scruggs, Tina and Steve Lowe, Kimberley and Steve Houchens Sr., Jay Taylor; Sandra and Fred Flowers, Linda Wolfersheim, Michael Kirby, and Annand Jerry Wood; grandchildren Adam and Adrian Scruggs, Amy and Jeremiah Hovis, Matthew and Alicia Taylor, Grant and Dorothy Houchens, Christopher Taylor and Jesse and Justin Crenshaw, Emily Flowers, Ross Flowers, Diana Kirby Musselman, Michael J. Kirby, Megan Kirby, Jason Wood; and the joy of her life, great grandchildren Jack and Ruby Hovis, Annabelle Taylor, Georgia and Ava Crenshaw, Marleigh and Jeffery Scruggs and Caroline Houchens; and many more great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Georgia was a faithful follower of Christ from her early adult years, and served Him with joy at Jefferson Park Baptist Church where she was a charter member, past VBS director, WMU president, church hostess and greeter where she warmly welcomed members and visitors for many years. She worked “as unto the Lord” and never for her own recognition. She was a Proverbs 31 woman as anyone who knew her would recognize. We grieve with hope knowing she is safe in the arms of her Blessed Savior. A Service of Worship to the glory of God and in memory of Georgia will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Park Baptist Church on Saturday, January 4, 2020, Dr. Keith Goad officiating. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dan Sawyer and staff and Legacy Hospice, especially Colleen, Linnea, Faith and Maria. In lieu of flowers, Georgia would like donations to Legacy Hospice, 650 Peter Jefferson Parkway, Suite 310, Charlottesville, VA 22911 or to Jefferson Park Baptist Church, 2505 Jefferson Park Ave., Charlottesville, VA 22903.
