George Arthur Laubscher, 87, passed away on Monday, December 23, 2019, at the Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, IA. Per George’s wishes, his body has been cremated and an inurnment will be held in the spring at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, IA. Mr. Laubscher was born on June 22, 1932, to Edward and Caroline (McCormick) Laubscher of Dow City, IA. George attended school through high school in Denison, IA. George enlisted into the United States Army on June 9, 1954, and served until his honorable discharge in May of 1956. George was served in the Korean Conflict, where he was discharged a Corporal. He served his tour of duty in Japan. Following his return home, George attended Midland Linotype School in Charles City, IA and later worked as a Linotype operator in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. George married Theresa M. Griffin on May 6, 1959, in Charles City, IA. They lived in Devil’s Lake, North North Dakota, for five years. Moving to Newton, IA in 1965, where George worked for the Newton Daily News as a Linotype operator for twelve years. The family moved to Mason City in 1979. George worked at nursing homes and the local grocery store as maintenance man; until his retirement in June, 1995. George enjoyed being with his family, fishing, bowling and golfing. George is survived by his children, Marita (Randy) Edwards of Havery, IA, and Sandra Laubscher of New Hampton, IA; grandchildren, Erin Pender, Casey Edwards, and Chad Edwards; siblings Dick and Bus Laubscher; as well as many nieces and nephews. George is preceded in death by his wife Theresa; parents; grandparents; two sisters and seven brothers; and many nieces and nephews.
