May 22 1924 December 28 2019
Eva Mae (Anderson) Carrico-Newhart was called home by God on December 28, 2019. She was the beloved wife of James L. Carrico from 1949 until his death in 1988. And the beloved wife of the Reverend Philip Newhart from 2007 until his death in 2018. Born in 1923 in Reedy, WV, she was the last living child of the late Richard and Hattie Pearl Anderson. She follows her sister Irene Starcher, and brothers, Charles Anderson and James Anderson into the Lord’s arms. Eva, at 95, was as vibrant as most 30-year olds. Her life spanned a century of turmoil and prosperity and she was a woman of her times. She worked during WW II in factories and supported the troops. She was working as a beautician in Akron, Ohio when she met and married James Lemuel Carrico (deceased), a WW II Veteran. They raised their three children in Green, OH. There, she formed her faith in the Roman Catholic Church, which lifted her throughout her life. She worked for many years at Montgomery Wards in Akron, OH. Her stunning soprano voice delighted her friends and family; she sang at every family gathering and contributed her talent to many church choirs, Queen of Heaven in Green, OH, Nativity in Uniontown, OH, and St. Francis Xavier in Fort Myers, FL to name a few. Upon retirement in the 1980s, she made her home in N. Ft. Myers, FL, where she reconnected with a childhood friend, the Reverend Phillip Newhart. They fell in love, married and spent their last years together in a loving and supportive relationship. She leaves behind her three beloved children and their spouses, Michael and Victoria Carrico of Hickory, NC, Patrice and John Ficociello of Billerica, MA, and Susan and Gregory Dempsey of Hartville, OH, her devoted step children, Esther and George Gotschall of Medina, OH and Lynn Newhart of Rockville, IL and her five grandchildren, John Richardson, Melissa White, Alexandria Carrico, Benjamin Ficociello and Michael Dempsey. She loved her many nephews and nieces. Eva will be interred in a private ceremony at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in her name to Hope Hospice 2430 Diplomat Pkwy E, Cape Coral, FL 33909, or Catholic Charities 2050 Ballenger Ave Suite 400, Alexandria, VA 22314.
