Elizabeth Davenport, age 102, of Old NC 226 in Spruce Pine, the Grassy Creek community, died Tuesday, December 10, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in the Grassy Creek community of Mitchell County, she was the oldest daughter of the late Thomas Samuel Greenlee and Amelia Meares Greenlee. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Lloyd Davenport, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her son, Daniel Thomas Davenport and her sisters; Elvira Bryant, Helen Habernack, Jane Robinson, and Becky Boyd. Mrs. Davenport was a graduate of Western Carolina University with a teaching degree. She taught school in Mitchell County for twenty-seven years. She was a lifelong member of the Grassy Creek Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth was a loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother and a friend to everyone she came in contact with. She will be sorely missed, and has made many everlasting memories to the family and friends that knew her. Left to cherish her memories are her sons; Billy Davenport and wife, Cindy of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Sam Davenport and wife, Margaret of Charlotte, NC; and Joe Davenport and wife, Loretta of Spruce Pine; her grandchildren; Beth Davenport, Matthew Davenport, Jessica Sharp, Mariah Smith, Samuel Davenport, Jr., Jossette Fortner, Lauren Hoilman, Russell Freeman, Kassey Clark, Sara Meredith, and Daniel Davenport; her great grandchildren; Kelsey and Katherine Sharp; Colton and Caleb Medlin; Trey and Easton Davenport; Bentley Hoilman; Liliana Wilkerson, Karley Davenport and Byron James Davenport; Kali and Kale Clark; and Madox Lee Meredith. The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the memorial service for Elizabeth Davenport on Friday, December 13, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Grassy Creek Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jim Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Greenlee Cemetery.
