Obituary Mr. Edwin Matthew “E. M.” Mathis, Jr, 100 of Quitman passed away Thursday, December 19, 2019 at South Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Mathis was born October 2, 1919 in Adel to the late Edwin M. Mathis, Sr, and Della Blanton Mathis. He moved to Quitman in 1948 and bought a farm where he worked with his brother, Quinton. Mr. Mathis worked many years with GA Farm Bureau and was a district field representative before retiring. He was a member of the First Baptist Church Quitman. Survivors include his son, Sherry “Ed” Mathis of Quitman; grandson, Dr. David E. Mathis (Dr. Allison Scheetz Mathis) of Macon; great grandchildren, Taylor Mathis and Morgan Mathis. Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell Mathis; daughter, Wanda Sharon Mathis; brother, Quinton G. (Frances) Mathis; and sister, Estelle (Zade) Kenimer. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Steve Shierling officiating.
