Mrs. Dorothy Magby-Mickens was an active member of Mt. Olive Baptists Church in Logan, West Virginia for over 88 years until she moved to Charlotte, NC. She was the chairwoman of county churches, secretary for her church, president of the Mission Circle along with the choir and the Sunday School teacher. In the community, Mrs. Magby-Mickens was a board member of the Guyan Valley District Women’s Convention and P.R.I.D.E., assistant secretary in the Deaconess’ Council, Queen of Shelba Chapter No. 8, Order of the Eastern Star, Ernest Workers No. 73, Courts of Calanthes, Logan County Women’s Federated Club, a member of the NAACP, AARP, Good News Bears of the World, and Chairwoman of the Shut-Ins Day for Guyan Valley. She leaves to cherish her memories: Charles H. Magby, Clarence D. Magby, Antonio Magby, Priscilla Hall, and Debbie (Sherman) Brown; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Services will be held at St. Phillips Baptist Church at Cora, on Friday, December 20, 2019. The visitation will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a celebration service to immediately follow at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow in Guyan Memorial Gardens.
