Dorothy Lou Reynolds June 29, 1938 – December 18, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers View/Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Dorothy Lou Reynolds died on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 in McAlester. She was born on June 29, 1938 in Stigler to Art B. and Jewell Mae (Patterson) Reynolds. She graduated from Hartshorne High School. Dorothy joined the U.S. Army on August 20, 1956 in Oklahoma City and retired January 1, 1977, discharged from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas as a Sergeant First Class. During her service, she was awarded the following: the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Metal (6th award); and a number of certificates of achievement, certificates of appreciation, and letters of commendation. Upon her retirement from the military, she earned a Master of Science Degree from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah in 1982, and went to work for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections as a psychologist. In 1995, she and her good friend Inez Hamilton started the Chemical Abuse Rehabilitation Enhancement (CARE) Program at Jackie Brannon Correctional Center. She is survived by her sister: Delilah Mae (Reynolds) Levendusky of Union Beach, New Jersey; nephews: Stephen Levendusky and Michael Levendusky; brother: David L. Reynolds of McAlester; nieces and nephews: Kay Tarver of McAlester, Jerry Lynn Gragg of High Hill Community, Sue Sweetin of Blanco, Rick Gragg of McAlester, Patty Honaker; and their children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents: Art and Jewell Reynolds. As per her request, Dorothy requested no services; and her cremated remains to be inurned in Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery in McAlester. Print Obituary
