Dorothy Jane Venrick June 05, 1933 – December 16, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Dorothy Jane (Eddy) Venrick of Loveland, Colorado died peacefully and surrounded by her loving family on December 16th, 2019. She was the daughter of Verl Elseworth Eddy and Grace Genevieve Twist. She was born at home in Denver, Colorado on June 5th, 1933. She and her brother, Winston James Eddy, where raised in Denver. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and West High. She married James Richard Venrick on June 20th, 1949. She and James lived in Denver, Colorado and later moved to Anton, Colorado. They were blessed with four children: Terry, Danny, Neotha Ann and James Jr. They relocated to Drake, Colorado where James was the Senior Maintenance supervisor for the Colorado State Department of Highways. Dorothy worked cleaning cabins and in 1968, she was hired by the United States Postal Service as a clerk. She was promoted to Postmaster in 1975. Drake was a dream come true and as a family, they enjoyed fishing, hunting and being in such a beautiful area. Their family was blessed and they truly enjoyed their new home. She and James were active members of the Drake Chapel of the Interlude. On July 31, 1976, the Big Thompson flood hit and their lives were forever changed. Drake was almost destroyed and James and Dorothy moved to Loveland; returning to their home later that fall. She and James felt they were blessed as they had each other, their home and jobs as many others had lost their loved ones and homes. In 1977, Dorothy received a Meritorious Award from the United States Postal Service and was awarded Postmaster of the Year in 1980. She became active in National Association of Postmasters (NAPUS) and was elected as Secretary and Treasurer, serving until 1991. She and James frequently traveled to Washington, DC to fulfill her duties and responsibilities with NAPUS. In addition to her decorated career as Postmaster, Dorothy earned a Bachelor’s degree in business. She retired from the United States Postal Service in 1992. Upon her retirement, she and James traveled in their fifth wheel to various fishing spots and lakes across Colorado. In 1994, they relocated to Fort Collins to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by her parents Verl and Grace Eddy, brother Winston Eddy, beloved husband James Venrick Sr, beloved sons Daniel and James Venrick Jr, cherished grandchildren Timothy and Danielle Venrick and loyal dogs Fergie, Tess, Lily and Gunther. Survivors include son Terry (Kathy) Venrick of Loveland and daughter Neotha (Richard) Mommer of Loveland; sister-in-law Shirley (Lewis) Green of Seattle, sister-in-law Margaret Venrick of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Jamie (Bo) Wood, Shannon Venrick, Lindsay (Kevin Reed) Venrick, Ashley (Joe) Hills , Colton (Sonia Muniz) Venrick, Corrisa Venrick, Tina Brown, Dan Venrick, Rachel (KG Schave) Mommer, Jennifer Mommer, Christine Cortney; great-grandchildren Christian, Shelby and Sydney Wood and Rose Venrick; dear friend Terry Stonebrink, numerous family friends, nieces and nephews and her dog Brandy. Dorothy loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and pets. Some of her fondest memories, were holding her children and grandchildren, and seeing them grow into adults and start their own families. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, sewing, gardening, baking and cooking. She was always up for an adventure and had the kindest, most loving heart. She wished the following to be shared with her family and friends: “I want the memory of me to be a happy one. I loved my life and my family. I want to leave you with happy thoughts and smiles. I’d like to leave you with my love surrounding you. When you think of me, remember you are always close and I will always be with you. Dad, Danny, Jimmy and I are with you every day. Remember, my love is endless. Always remember me with a smile and sometimes a laugh. Love, Mom.” Funeral service 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2019 at Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home. Visitation 3-5:00 p.m., Thursday, December 19,2019. Interment Resthaven Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Dorothy’s names to Pathways Hospice (305 Carpenter Rd Fort Collins, CO) and the Animal House Rescue (2200 N Taft Hill Rd Fort Collins, Co 80524). The family would also like to express their gratitude to the dedicated and compassionate staff at Pathway’s Hospice and Brookdale.
