Charles Henry Barkema of Rockford, Michigan (formerly of Huntington, IN), age 82, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2019. He was born to Frank and Grace (Redman) Barkema on November 11, 1937, in Muskegon Heights, MI. Charles was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard of Indiana. He enjoyed listening to music and spending time with family. Charles is survived by his former wife, Lynn Barkema; loving daughters, J. (Ken Webb) Kristin, Rebecca (Gary) Dubuc, and Janet (Romar Morales) Pace; grandchildren, Alaric Webb, Casey Dubuc, Abbi Dubuc, Christian Pace, and Isaiah Pace; three great grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Richard) Hull; brother, Dale (Lisa) Barkema; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Freida. The memorial service for Charles will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 27, 2019, at Pederson Funeral Home, 127 N. Monroe Street NE, Rockford, MI 49341. Rev. Jason Peterson will be officiating. There will also be a one-hour memorial visitation prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to offer expressions of sympathy may make memorial contributions to the Kent County Honor Guard, 2101 Ontario Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49505.
