Carl J. Kostelac Jr., 66, of Shinnston passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital. He was born October 30, 1953 in Clarksburg a son of the late Carl J. Kostelac Sr. and Betty Lou Elbon Kostelac who survives in Clarksburg. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Been of Bridgeport; his loving daughters, Betty Byrd and her husband Michael; and Melissa Bee and her husband Kevin, all of Clarksburg; his step-daughter, Jennifer Rhodes of Taylorsville, NC; grandchildren, Andra Bee; Kaitlyn Bee; Asia Rhodes; and Johnathan Rhodes; niece, Sarah Been; great-niece, Elexis Riggleman; and his great-nephew, Elijah Riggleman. In addition to his father, Carl was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Been. Carl was a 1971 graduate of Shinnston High School. He retired from the City of Shinnston with many years of service to the Public Works Department. Carl was a member of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron #31 where he served as Commander for many years. He also served the SAL as State Department First and Second Vice-Commander. Carl could often be found sitting in his breezeway listening to old time rock and roll. He also enjoyed watching the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Phillies. Carl will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather. The family will receive friends at Perine Funeral Home, 1348 S. Pike St. Shinnston, on Wednesday, December 4, from 2 – 7 PM. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted that evening at 7:00 pm with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating. In keeping with Carl’s wishes, cremation services were provided by Perine Funeral Home.
