Bernita’s Obituary Bernita Marie Thoenen, 84, of Mexico, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at King’s Daughters Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 24, at St. Brendan Catholic Church with Fr. Dylan Schrader officiating. Burial will follow at St. Brendan Cemetery. Visitation is Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home. Bernita was born June 29, 1935 in Rich Fountain, the daughter of Alphonse and Elizabeth (Falter) Bock. On October 26, 1957, at St. Joseph Church in Westphalia, she married Leo A. Thoenen. He passed away March 6, 1985. Mrs. Thoenen worked in the cafeteria at St. Brendan School and was a Girl Scout Leader when her children were younger. As her children got older, she went to work at Audrain Medical Center as a housekeeper. After retiring from the hospital, she returned to work at St. Brendan School for the after-school program. In addition to her children, she was a motherly figure to all and was dearly loved. The holidays were some of her favorite times of the year. She also enjoyed baking and cooking for her family. Survivors include seven children, Debbie Thoenen of Kansas City, Dinah (Frank) Winn of Benton City, Dennis (Zella) Thoenen of Mexico, David (Connie) Thoenen of Mexico, Darrell (Tonya) Thoenen of Benton City, Darla (Bruce) Mueller of Mexico and Dale Thoenen of Mexico; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchild; one brother, Arthur (Ruth) Bock of Westphalia; and one sister, Mildred Falter of Linn. Bernita was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; her parents; and two sisters, Theresa Huber and Marcella Bock. Memorial donations may be made to St. Brendan Catholic Church.
