Bernice E. Reese, 92, of Akron, Indiana passed at 9:25 am, Thursday, Dec. 26, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital of Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She was born on Sept. 20, 1927 in Tiosa, Fulton County, Indiana to the late Alva and Hazel (Kindig) Thompson. She married on Oct. 8, 1947 in Rochester, Indiana to G. Wayne Reese, who preceded her in death on Feb. 5, 2019. She had worked for Hart Schaffner Marx of Rochester, Indiana as well as being a homemaker. She was a graduate of Argos High School. She attended the Akron Church of God for many years and along with her husband was involved in bus ministry. Also more recently he had attended the Athens Community Church. She and her husband also enjoyed square dancing and wintering in Florida, which they have done for over 30 years. Survivors and place of residence: Sons – Orville and wife Julie Reese – Akron, Ind. Preceded in Death By: Parents – Alva and Hazel Thompson Husband – Wayne Reese Son – Calvin Reese (2000) Sisters – Bertha Jane Thacker and Eva Lawmaster Brothers – Eldon, Charles, and Dale Thompson The funeral service will be at 10:30 am, Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2019 at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 West Rochester Street Akron, Indiana with Pastor Wanda Carter and Pastor Luke Vasicek of the Athens Community Church officiating. The burial will take place following the service in the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Rochester, Indiana. Visitation hours will be from 5 pm to 7 pm, Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, Indiana. Donations can be made in her memory to the Town of Akron Parks 206 W.
