Orvis Monroe Hughes October 29, 1931 – August 26, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card| Memorial Donation Orvis Monroe Hughes, 87, of Clovis, NM passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, August 30, 2019 at The Chapel, 1500 N. Thornton, with Rob Pitcock officiating. Orvis was born October 29, 1931 in Clovis, NM to B.F. “Dick” Hughes and Ottie Smith Hughes. He married Catherine Mollick on July 9, 1955 in Bremerton, WA. Orvis worked for the AT&SF Railroad for 43 years. He enjoyed classic car shows, watching car auctions and car shows, and traveling. Orvis was a charter/life member of the VFW Post 3280, where he enjoyed socializing with their many friends. He was a fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the San Antonio Spurs. Survivors include: his two daughters; Tina (Daryl) Ward of Clovis, NM, and Mary (Rob) Pitcock of Albuquerque, NM, a son; Buddy (Melinda) Hughes of Clovis, NM, sister; Joann (David) Petty of Clovis, NM, five grandchildren; Ian, Leigha, Autumn, Dustin, and Ashleigh, and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dick and Ottie, wife, Cathy Hughes, and brother; Al Stickley. In lieu of flowers, family request memorial contributions be made to VFW Post 3280 Welfare Fund, 200 W. Grand Ave, Clovis, NM 88101.
