Helen M. McGill of Jackson Center, PA passed on Tuesday afternoon, July 30, 2019 in Orchard Manor. She was 91.
Helen was born in New Castle on May 23, 1928 to Leroy Dennison and Elnora Margaret (McCormick) McGill.
She was a graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School and the Bashline Rossman School of Nursing, Grove City. Helen was a member of The Church of The Beloved Disciple.
She started her nursing career at the former Bashline Hospital were she supervised the operating rooms.
In the late 1960’s she moved to Miami, FL and worked in surgery at the VA Hospital. Later in the mid 70’s she returned to the Pittsburgh area working in operating rooms at Presbyterian, Mercy, Allegheny and Montefiore Hospitals.
While working for the University of Pittsburgh she was a member of the team that performed the first heart transplant in this area. At the time of her retirement she was working in organ transplant surgery at Presbyterian.
Helen was a member of the Grove City Women’s Club. She was an active volunteer at Grove City Medical Center. She enjoyed spending time with the Bashline Hospital and Sandy Lake High School alumni’s.
Helen like traveling, golfing and dancing and most of all spending time with her nephews and nieces.
She is survived by nephews and nieces, Leroy “Denny” Geibel and wife Karen, Jackson Center, Linda Geibel, Garner, NC, Lawrence M. Geibel and wife Mary Beth, Grove City and Laurel M. Geibel, Jackson Center, Steve Polkabla and wife Amy, Michael Polkabla and wife Cindy and Cathy Saylor and husband Jerry, all of Grove City. Many great nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Her parents and 2 sisters, Blanche Polkabla Bodesheim and Dorothy Geibel preceded Helen in death.
