Barton’s Obituary Mr. Barton R. Whitlock, 56 of Gulfport, Mississippi departed this life, Tuesday, June 18, 2019. Mr. Whitlock was a lifelong Mississippi Gulf Coast resident. He was a graduate of Gulfport High School and while at Gulfport High, Mr. Whitlock was on the Gulfport High Track and Field team. He also was a member of the 1977 State Championship Football Team. After graduation, he attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he was a member of the Lion Football Team. After his time at Southeastern Louisiana University, Mr. Whitlock moved to Mandeville, Louisiana where he lived more than 20 years. While in Mandeville, he worked as a Service Provider for UPS. He later returned home to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Mr. Whitlock was a gregarious man, a “Jokester” and could always be found making people around him laugh. His personality was contagious. Though his high school and college days were over, his love for sports did not end. Mr. Whitlock enjoyed watching sports and the Saints was a favorite. An all around fun-loving guy is who Mr. Whitlock is remember to be by his family. His love, light, and presence will be missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. Boston Whitlock. He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his mother, Mrs. Verlean Watters Whitlock- Gulfport, Mississippi; a brother, Ormando Whitlock- Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a sister, Vonnicia “Nicie” (Reginald) Veal- Pearland, Texas; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
