Virginia Karstaedt May 23 2019

Virginia (Ginny) Parr Karstaedt passed away peacefully in her home where she resided since 1944 on Thursday, May 23, 2019 in Beloit, WI. She was 100 years old and a lifetime resident of Beloit. The date of her death would have marked her 80th Wedding Anniversary. Ginny lived her life surrounded by cherished family and friends who loved her deeply. She was predeceased by both her parents, Harris Parr and Lottie (Ledell), husband Martin F. Karstaedt in 1974, and her daughter Stephanie (1953). Virginia is survived by her two sons, Stephen (Cindy) Karstaedt and Deane (Marybeth) Karstaedt all of Beloit, WI; six grandchildren, Christopher (Anna) Karstaedt of Darien, WI, Mindy (Josh) Tracy of Avalon, WI, Ethan Karstaedt of Clinton, WI, Matthew Karstaedt of Leesburg, VA, Andrew (Amanda) Karstaedt of Jacksonville, FL, and Sarah (Matthew) Johnson of Roscoe, IL; Thirteen great grandchildren, Logan and Kylie Karstaedt, Collin and Easton Tracy, Brandon and Aaliyah Karstaedt, Taylor, Gabriel and Morgan Karstaedt, Archer and Atlas Karstaedt, Declan and Isla Johnson. Virginia was a 1936 graduate of Beloit High School. She and her husband Martin became owner/publishers of the Walworth County Shopper Advertiser in 1953 and expanded to include the Beloit Shopping News in 1968 and the Janesville Messenger in the mid-1980s. Eventually the three publications consolidated into Community Shoppers Incorporated (CSI). Virginia retired from CSI in the year 2000. As a dog enthusiast and an animal welfare activist, Ginny was never without a four-legged friend or two, most of whom were rescues from the Humane Society. She volunteered for and served on the Rock County Humane Society board for many years. Ginny loved flowers and gardening, and eating “vengtables,” sweets and looked forward to “cocktail time!” Her Irish heritage (her father immigrates) and family were extremely important to her. She never forgot a birthday, or anniversary, and was a stickler for “thank yous.” Virginia will be remembered for her sense of humor and the love of a good joke. Special thanks to Dr. Ken Gold for all his care and faithful home visits, to each of the caregivers who attended Virginia in the last years of her life, and to Beloit Regional Hospice for their end of life care. A family graveside service was held in East Lawn Cemetery. Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, assisted the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Rock County Humane Society.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Virginia Karstaedt May 23 2019.
