Stephen James Shook, age 74 went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, May 19, 2019 at his home in York, SC. He was surrounded by the love of his life and close family members after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 16, 1944 in San Francisco, CA to Harold and Rae Shook and was the eldest of four boys. Steve met beautiful Gail Griswold in 1965, and immediately fell in love and then married December 2, 1967 at Randolph AFB in San Antonio, Texas. Steve followed his father in becoming a fighter pilot for the US Air Force. He served valiantly in Vietnam. His intensity and passion in war was matched after he completed his military service in civilian life. Steve graduated from the University of Texas in 1966 and later earned an MBA from the University of Utah. He pursued a career in the investment banking industry as a Financial Analyst beginning at Chase Manhattan in NYC where he earned his CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) in 1984. After several years Steve accepted a position in Charlotte NC with Interstate Johnson Lane eventually becoming Wachovia. Steve was best known for his love and passion for Jesus Christ and the written word of God. He dedicated his life to humbly serving the Lord and seeking truth by reading and studying the word of God. This passion lead to a deep understanding of the Bible and joy from teaching youth and adult Bible studies throughout his life. Steve’s greatest joy was cherishing his lovely wife Gail. Their love for each other was abundantly clear to all who knew and interacted with them. They shared a Biblical view of marriage that included nearly 52 years of joy and blessings from God. Steve adored his daughters Stephanie and Beth, boasting constantly about his four grandchildren and taking every opportunity to mentor them. Steve is survived by his beloved wife Gail, daughters Stephanie and Beth, brother Will (Lisa), sister-in-law Anne Rutland (Robert) and his four grandchildren Justin, Chase, Katlyn, & Blaine; along with 6 nieces and nephews. Steve’s passing was preceded by his brothers Mike and David and by his parents Hal, Rae, and stepmother Marilyn. Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 25, 2019 at M. L. We will always remember Steve’s positive attitude in the face of extreme circumstances, his constant self-sacrifice for others benefit, and his unquenchable desire for everyone to know the Grace that comes by faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
