Ruth D. Anas August 10, 1936 – May 25, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Memorial Donation Ruth Dodson Anas passed away Saturday, May 25, 2019 at her home in Charlottesville, surrounded by her three devoted children. Ruth was born August 10, 1936 to the late Gideon O. and Olive B. Dodson of Culpeper, VA. She was the widow of the late Ernest G. Anas. Ruth and Ernie were married for 49 years before Ernie’s death in 2007. Ruth was devoted to Ernie and her children. Her passion was her family and she was never happier than when they were all gathered in her home. Ruth is survived by two daughters; Deborah Stollings and her husband Brian, of Charlottesville, VA; Athena Booker and her husband, Fred of Gainesville, VA; and one son Gregory Anastopoulos and his wife Kiana of Charlottesville, VA. Ruth was the much-adored grandmother of Reece and Ashley Stollings, Raigan and Taylor Booker and Noah Anastopoulos. Ruth also leaves her special nieces, Sandra Kirby of Wake Forest, NC and Sharon Branham of Lynchburg, VA along with many nephews, nieces and cousins. Ruth will also be missed by her faithful canine companion Maxx. Ruth graduated from Culpeper High School in 1954 and immediately joined her sisters in Charlottesville. She began working at Safeway, where she met the only man she ever loved, Ernie. Ruth had an amazingly big heart and a capacity to care for everyone she met. When she began her banking career in the late 1950s, as a teller with Citizens Bank and Trust, she developed friendships that would last her lifetime. Ruth left banking in 1965 to raise her children. When she returned 16 years later, her strong work ethic earned her a promotion to branch manager. She was especially proud of turning a little trailer into the brick and mortar branch that now stands as a Wells Fargo on the corner of 29 and Airport Road. Ruth remained with the company until her retirement in 1998. Ruth was a long-time member of Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, which she continued to support even after her health declined and prevented her from attending. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church. Reverend Robert Lewis and Reverend Edward Hopkins will officiate. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Hill and Wood Funeral Home. The family wishes to express special thanks to Brenda, mom’s caregiver and companion these past few months and Dr. Deborah Campbell for her decades of care, kindness, encouragement and friendship. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Ruth’s name to Hinton Avenue United Methodist Church, 750 Hinton Avenue, Charlottesville, VA 22902 or the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA, 3355 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
