Ruby J. Burkhart, 75, of Laurel, passed away Tuesday afternoon, April 30, 2019, at her home. She was born September 8, 1943, in Bell County, Kentucky, one of twelve children of Vernon and Flora Smith Jackson. On August 2, 1958, she was married to Frank Burkhart. Mr. Burkhart passed away December 29, 2003. Ruby came to Indiana in 1968, and had resided in Laurel since 1973. She was employed at Sperry-Rice in Brookville, retiring in 2006. She was a member of Metamora Church of God. In her leisure time, she enjoyed fishing, growing her tomatoes, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include four children, Sue Galusha and husband, Bruce of Connersville, Ruthena Costello and husband, Jay of Ridgefield, Washington, John Burkhart and wife, Shelley, and Eleanor Burkhart, all of Laurel; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Moses and husband, Chris of Grays, Kentucky, Helen Hubbard, and Pansy Mabe, both of London, Kentucky; a brother, Don Jackson of London, Kentucky; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband of 45 years, Frank Burkhart, Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Wayne Ison at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Metamora Church of God. Burial will follow in Laurel North Cemetery.
