Roy’s Obituary Roy Gentry, Sr., age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 28, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Gentry; mother, Mae Belle Gentry Moore; two daughters, Sandra and Susan Gentry; three brothers, Dude, Robert, and Jerry Gentry. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sylvesta Quillian Gentry; six children, Sherry and Benny Roberts, Shelby and Harry Worley, Maybell Gentry, Roy Gentry Jr., Rhonda Sue Isenhower, and Robert and Tina Gentry. 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren also survive. Roy was called to preach in 1956 and was ordained to the ministry in 1958 as pastor of Hopewell Baptist Church and then Corinth Baptist Church in 1961. Roy went to Dogwood Valley Baptist Church in 1963, where he served as pastor for 56 years. Under his ministry, Dogwood Valley Bible Camp “Gods 70 acres” was established in 1970 and Dogwood Christian Academy in 1974. These ministries remain in the Lord’s service today. The family will receive friends at Love Funeral Home on Wednesday May 1st from 4:30 until 9:00. Roy will lie in state on Thursday from 12:00 until 2:00 at Dogwood Valley Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 with Roy Gentry Jr., Jeremiah Quarles, Benny Roberts, and John David Dorsey officiating. Interment will follow in the Dogwood Valley Baptist Church Cemetery.
