Mr. Homer Bernard Hicks, 87, passed away May 19, 2019 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born June 20, 1931 to the late Will Hicks and Flora Ann Cox Hicks. Homer’s first job was with Northwest Vending Co. working on jukeboxes and cigarette machines. He then worked for the hardware store in King and the Town of Pilot Mountain. Homer served many years in the Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad. In addition, he was a member of King American Legion Post 290 for many years. He was a longtime member of Brim’s Grove Baptist Church where he took care of the church cemetery. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Gunnell and Betty Hicks; four brothers, Luther, Harvey, Robert, and James Hicks. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley M. Hicks; two daughters, Debbie H. Manring (Clark), Trish H. Martin (Brad); one son, Homer Scott Hicks; five grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2019 at Brim’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Gerald Jones officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the church cemetery. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 290 of King. The family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to: Brim’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Alfred McCreary, 4019 N.C. Hwy 268 E., Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
