Phyllis L. ‘Penny’ McClintock, 59, of Hodges, died Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Doctors Hospital of Augusta, GA. She was born in Greenwood to the late Elic Rayburn Cann and Flora Lee Rushton Cann Bates. At a young age, Penny, along with her mom and step-father, Charles Bates, relocated to Rockdale, TX. Later, the family moved to San Antonio, TX where she met Cookie Bruno who became her very best friend for 49 years. Penny graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and was employed with Sony, retiring after 19 years of dedicated service. In 2011, she returned to South Carolina to reconnect with her dad and family. Penny had a heart of gold. She was a caring, giving, witty person, always bringing laughter to those around her. Penny attended Hodges Church of God. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father. Penny is survived by her son, Brandon McClintock and his wife, Rachel; her siblings, Ryan Cann, Linda Baker Cann and Kimberly Cann Hill; a cousin, Tammy Moriarty and her husband, Don; and her friend, Cookie Bruno. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Tammy, who lovingly cared for her. A service to celebrate Penny’s life will be held at a later date.
