Lonnie Obadiah Mayberry, 92, of Statesville, died Friday, May 17, 2019 at the home of his daughter. Lonnie was born in Iredell County on October 14, 1926 to the late Arthur Mayberry and Esther Anderson Mayberry. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Shirley Elder Mayberry. He attended Hebron Baptist Church and Western Avenue Baptist Church and was the owner and operator of Gulf Service on Sullivan and later was a driver for Southside Drug Co. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army. Survivors include a son, James A. Mayberry, a daughter, Lisa Mayberry, a sister, Helen Hicks (June), two grandchildren, Ashley Rivera (Sebastian) and James Mayberry and 3 great grandchildren, Jade Allen, Ali Rivera and Dylan Rivera. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Thursday at Nicholson Funeral Home with Rev. William Wease officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Martin’s Cemetery on Wallace Springs Road with full military rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail. The family will greet friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. prior. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
