Mary Lorraine Kench, age 95, known to many as “Lorraine” and known to her family as “Rainy”, died Tuesday in Seminole, FL after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Edward Paul Kench. Born and raised in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Charles A. and Margaret Alice (McDonald) Baldwin. She was a graduate of Lynn Classical High School and the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing. She had lived in Lynn for the greater part of her life before moving to Seminole, FL. Lorraine was a proud member of the US Cadet Nurse Corp in 1944. A registered nurse all of her working life, Lorraine was the first registered “R.N.” in 1945. She was a member of the Lynn Hospital Nurse Alumnae Association, a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Lynn, and a proud grandmother of her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She also had a great interest in genealogy. She is survived by her five children; Edward P. Kench of Seminole, FL, James V. Kench and his wife Elizabeth of North Conway, NH, Jan F. Hood and her husband Arthur of Merrimac, MA, Thomas J. Kench and his wife Mary Ellen of Lynn, and Paula Ludwig and her husband Edward of Seminole, FL; her grandchildren; Ed, Jesse, Josh, Adam, Kathryn, Kurt and Allison; as well as nine great-grandchildren; her sisters; Ruth Shea of Carbondale, IL, Barbara Lally of Seminole, FL, and Jacqueline Cassely of Peabody; she also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Catherine “Sally” and Charles “Gus” Baldwin. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:30AM from the SOLIMINE FUNERAL HOME, 426 Broadway (Rt 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn at 10:30AM. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours are Monday from 4-8PM.
