Lucille’s Obituary Lucille “Cille” Stutts, 93, of Wingate at Wilbraham, Massachusetts, passed peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on January 24, 1926, she was the eldest of six children born to Samuel and Lavinia Stutts. She attended elementary, junior and senior high schools in the city. She joined her sisters Hazel and Ruth, and friend Junice “Sis” Bogert in “The Angel Quartet”, a children’s vocal group that performed on national radio. The group was later renamed “The Stutts Sisters” after another younger sister, Henrietta “Etta”, joined. They also appeared in the early days of television. Following high school graduation, she and her sisters moved to New York City, where she was employed in the garment industry working with several highly-acclaimed designers. Even after her sister’s group disbanded, music continued to be a lifelong passion. After living in New York City for more than 60 years, she moved back to Springfield in retirement, living out her last years at Wingate. Pre-deceased by her parents, siblings Etta and Samuel “Sonny” Stutts Jr., brothers-in-law Raymond Williamson Sr., Kariuki K. Njiiri, and George Jacobs, she leaves sisters Hazel Williamson and Ruth Njiiri, both of Springfield, Jeanne Hall and brother-in-law Richard Hall Sr. of Greenfield, sister-in-law Ruth Ann Hamilton-Stutts of Springfield, along with several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Her family is deeply grateful to the staff and friends at Wingate of Wilbraham, for the wonderful care she received there. A private grave-site service is being held, with a celebration of her life to be announced at a later date. Read More
