Kenneth “The Candy Man Lee Dillard August 11 1924 May 28 2019

A Celebration of Life well lived will be held at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S. Old State Road 37, Bloomington, on Friday, May 31, 2019. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a celebration following at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery. He lived a joyful, Christian life. His passion was giving candy to people everywhere, he loved to make people smile. Every day was a gift. He was a proud World War II Army Veteran serving in the 70th and 91st Division. He was in combat in Italy and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He wore his World War II hat proudly every day. His working life was spent in the limestone industry, retiring from Fluck Stone Mill Company. As soon as Lowes opened their doors, he started his second career retiring at the age of 88. He was a devoted member of Clear Creek Christian Church, serving as a deacon, elder, trustee, and on the Board for most of his life. Welcoming him to heaven was his loving wife, Irene, great-grandson Cody, sisters Edith and Edna, brothers Harry Edward, Robert, Charles, and William, and parents, Harry and Dora. Continuing on with memories are daughters, Sue (Chuck) May, and Nancy (Rudy) Kaster; son Richard (Pat); grandchildren, Chris (Heidi) May, Trisha (Chip) Lawrence, and Lindsey (Chase) Dillard; great-grandchildren, Marissa May, as well as his sister-in-law, Betty Jacobs; sisters, Jo Arnold and Lois Grossman, and many, many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Legacy and Heartstone for their care and love for the past three years, as well as The Hospice House for their tender care for the last few days of dad’s life on this earth. Memorial contributions may be made to IU Health Bloomington Hospice in lieu of flowers.
