Hiwassee, VA- Junior Ray “JR” Shrewsbury, 86, of Hiwassee, VA and formerly of Bluefield, WV, died Friday May 3, 2019 at his home. Born May 15, 1932 in Rock, WV, he was a son of the late Ray Ervin Shrewsbury and Mamie Anna Shrewsbury Kitts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Jacqueline Bone Shrewsbury, wife; brothers: Mason Edward Shrewsbury of Dayton, OH and Harry Watson Shrewsbury of Alexandra, KY and one sister: Anna Marie Shrewsbury. He leaves to cherish his memory: two daughters, Tina Clendenin of Max Meadows, VA and Teresa Darden (David) of Mills River, NC; three grandchildren, Lori Beth Clendenin (Charlie), Jason Paul Cole (Jessica), Lee William Cole (Laura), all of Bluefield, WV; three great grandchildren, Madelyn, Liam, and Chase; sister-in-law, Wanda Shrewsbury of Alexandra, KY; three nephews and one niece. JR began his career in 1950 with Hart Electric Company, and served in the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War from 1952-1954. Upon the completion of his military service, he returned to Hart Electric Company. In October 1958, he co-founded Bluefield Armature Company. He became a partner in Mustard Equipment in the mid-1980s. He then founded Electest, Inc., to make test equipment which he patented for electrical motor repair shops. He worked as a consultant to DS Parts for several years before retiring. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 160 in Bluefield, WV; Beni Kedem Shrine of Charleston, WV; and the Bluefield WV Lions Club for several years. He was a member of the Cecil’s Chapel Methodist Church of Hiwassee, VA. A celebration of the life of JR Shrewsbury will be held on Monday May 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Mercer Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Douglas W. McDaniel, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park mausoleum.
